FUFA Big League Round-Up: Blacks Power Slip in Olwiyo as Ntungasaze trumphs
The second round of the FUFA Big League kicked off this weekend, bringing excitement and surprises as table-toppers Blacks Power FC faced off against Young Elephants Academy FC in Olwiyo. Despite entering the match with confidence, Blacks Power found themselves bested by a determined home side.
Blacks Power came into the match boasting a commanding position at the top of the table and having previously defeated Young Elephants Academy 3-1 in their first leg clash in Lira City. However, the Allan Kabonge side had thoroughly prepared for this encounter, demonstrating their resolve from the opening whistle.
The match was tightly contested, with both teams making several attempts to score. However, it was in the 41st minute that the turning point came: Blacks Power conceded an own goal when the ball deflected off Siwu Michael's leg, marking the only goal of the evening.
Despite the setback, Blacks Power remains atop the league with 29 points, but their lead has been narrowed to just one point ahead of Ntungasaze FC, who had a sensational performance this weekend.
In Ibanda, Kigezi Homeboys managed a 1-1 draw against Karo Karungi, a result that ultimately saw them slip to third place with 26 points. This draw allowed Ntungasaze FC to leapfrog into second place after a dominant 4-1 victory over West Nile outfit Nebbi Central, bringing their total points to 28.
Elsewhere, CATDA FC faced disappointment, losing 0-1 to Sotilo Bright Stars FC at Bugoloobi Coffee Grounds. Meanwhile, at the famous Barookoro stadium, Paida Black Angels SC secured a crucial 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Mbale Heroes FC.
Onduparaka FC experienced a tough match, succumbing to Iganga FC 2-1, landing them firmly in the relegation zone.
Kataka FC saw success as they climbed to fourth position with a narrow 1-0 victory against Bunyaruguru FC, who have now slipped to sixth place.
Elsewhere , Wakiso Giants edged Kiyinda Boys 1-0, marking their fifth win of the season and easing their position two points clear of the relegation zone.
